Canadian Festival Design
Class: Communication Design 2, Third Year
(school project)
NOTE: This project is a school project, and is in no way affiliated with JFL42.
Project Objective
Develop an original visual theme and bilingual design system for a real and existing Canadian festival. The goal is to have this new theme and design system work effectively and cohesively across several forms of communication, such as a poster, event tickets, and program booklet.
Project Concept
For my existing festival selection, I chose JFL42, Toronto's Comedy Festival. My new and original visual theme for this festival was "A Time to Unwind", as I feel that stand-up comedy, along with this festival, is a great way for people to let loose and have fun. My design system would use bright colours and illustrations to convey the unwinding, unraveling and escapist nature of stand-up comedy.
Event Ticket Design (Front and Back) | 2 x 7 inches
Carrying the same design system as my poster into the event ticket design for the festival, but with the challenge of being restricted to two colours. It was important to allow the ticket design to be flexible in order to cater to different event specifications, such as names of comedians/performers, dates, and venue locations, in addition to being bilingual.
Festival Program Booklet | 6.5 x 8.5 inches
Incorporating my visual theme and design system into a program booklet intended for the festival attendees.
