YSDN Promotional Postcards
Class: Design & Image, First Year
(school project)
Project Objective
Design a series of 3 postcards to promote the York/Sheridan design program (YSDN).
Project Concept
This project required developing and designing a concept narrative for a series of three postcards that would promote the York/Sheridan program in design to potential future YSDN students.
My concept was to capture the idea of design being a motivating and constant occurrence to the life of a designer. In other words, how designers see the world around them; whether above us, around us, or right in front of us. With this concept laid out, I then based my designs around my postcard tagline, “Explore life through design”.
“Search the Known, and Discover the Unknown”
Postcard One | Front and Back
Visualizing how design allows us to further examine what we already know and to push us to explore new possibilities. I connected this exploration to outerspace, and how a telescope allows us to see and investigate what is out in the universe, while also allowing us to make new discoveries.
“Inspiration Is All Around You, Just Waiting to Be Found”
Postcard Two | Front and Back
Life and everything around us, such as nature, is able to inspire us if we really stop to appreciate, admire it, and enjoy the little things. The compass helps to signify this kind of exploration, direction and navigation through the world as we take it in.
“Life’s About Investigating Problems, and Building Solutions”
Postcard Three | Front and Back
Designers are tasked with finding creative solutions to problems and challenges, much like a detective solving a case, or a scientist conducting research and experiments. The magnifying glass helps to make similar connections to design for designers, and how we may go about focusing in on problems and developing creative solutions with a closer and more focused approach.
